Victoria Hung Fut & Lion Dance Association
The Victoria Hung Fut & Lion Dance Association (VHFLDA), formerly known as the Wong Sheung Kung Fu Club (WSKFC), was founded in Victoria, BC, in 1974 by the late Grand Master Wong Sheung. In September 2026, the organization officially adopted its new name to reflect its continued growth and expanded role in martial arts, Lion Dance, cultural education, and community engagement.
For more than 50 years, the organization has preserved and shared the traditions of Hung Fut Kung Fu and Chinese Lion Dance in Greater Victoria. VHFLDA continues the teachings and Hung Fut lineage established by Grand Master Wong Sheung, with instruction carried forward by his disciples and senior students.
Hung Fut is a traditional Southern Chinese martial art with a long history. The Association is committed to maintaining its traditional approach to training, including fundamental stances, groundwork, forms, applications, weapons, and Lion Dance. Training is non-ranking and non-competitive, with an emphasis on discipline, respect, tradition, and the development of practical skills.
The organization has also played an active role in the community for decades, participating in Lunar New Year celebrations, Canada Day events, Dragon Boat Festivals, cultural celebrations, business openings, weddings, and other community gatherings. Through these activities, VHFLDA provides opportunities for members to learn about and participate in Chinese cultural traditions while sharing them with the broader community.
As a volunteer-led, non-profit organization, VHFLDA is dedicated to ensuring that these traditions remain accessible to future generations. Support from the community helps the Association continue its martial arts and cultural programs, maintain and replace aging equipment, and preserve the knowledge and traditions passed down through the Hung Fut lineage.
Today, the Victoria Hung Fut & Lion Dance Association continues to honour the legacy of Grand Master Wong Sheung while building upon that foundation for future generations.
