Conversations for a One Planet Region
Founded by Dr. Trevor Hancock, Conversations for a One Planet Region is a non-profit society based in Saanich dedicated to advancing social and ecological sustainability. Its vision is a Greater Victoria where everyone enjoys a high quality of life and good health, while living within the limits of one planet’s resources.
Through public forums, partnerships, and community-wide conversations, the organization works to educate, inspire, and mobilize individuals, schools, businesses, and governments to take action on climate change and sustainability. The One Planet framework emphasizes not only zero waste and zero-carbon energy but also health, happiness, equity, local economy, and community culture.
The challenge is clear: Canada currently uses the equivalent of five planets’ worth of resources, while Greater Victoria consumes at a level of three to four planets. To secure a sustainable future, we must rapidly reduce our ecological footprint by 65–80 percent. Conversations for a One Planet Region provides the leadership, dialogue, and community connections needed to make this transformation possible.
