1000 x 5 - A Children's Book Recycling & Literacy Project
The Saanich Legacy Foundation is proud to support 1000×5 Early Literacy, a community-based program working to ensure that every child in the Capital Region has access to books and the joy of early reading. The program’s goal is simple but powerful: for each child to have heard 1,000 books by age five. Research shows that handling books, listening to stories, and sharing that time with a caring adult is one of the most important activities for a child’s cognitive, social, and emotional development.
With your donation through the Saanich Legacy Foundation, you help put books directly into the hands of children who need them most. Contributions sustain book collection, sorting, and distribution across Victoria, the Westshore, and the Peninsula—reaching thousands of families each month through 42 partner agencies. Every dollar supports the gift of literacy and helps build brighter futures for children in our community.
