Tam Kung Temple (Yen Wo Society)
The Tam Kung Temple, located on the 4th floor of the Yen Wo Society Building in Victoria’s historic Chinatown, is Canada’s oldest Chinese temple and a nationally recognized heritage site. For more than a century, the Yen Wo Society has been dedicated to its preservation and cultural stewardship, ensuring that this sacred space continues to serve as a cornerstone of Chinese heritage and identity in Canada.
Built over one hundred years ago at 1713 Government Street, the temple building now requires seismic upgrades and structural repairs to its roof and parapet. The Yen Wo Society is seeking community support to restore and preserve this vital piece of Canadian history — safeguarding both its architectural integrity and its role as a living symbol of faith, resilience, and cultural unity.
Through its partnership with the Saanich Legacy Foundation, donations to the Tam Kung Temple Restoration Fund help ensure that this cherished landmark remains open to the public and continues to provide a space for spiritual reflection, cultural celebration, and ancestral honour for generations to come.
Your contribution helps preserve one of Canada’s most important cultural and spiritual landmarks, ensuring its legacy endures for the future.
